About the
Professional

With over 20 years in the design industry, Leonie von Sturmer has established herself as one of New Zealand’s most highly acclaimed and experienced interior designers.

Upon completion of her interior design course in the early 1990s, Leonie started her professional design career, specialising in kitchens. It didn’t take long for her to start thinking more holistically about her design processes, through consideration of adjoining spaces and the lifestyles of her clients, and in 1997 she founded her own design practice, now Von Sturmers, a design studio specialising in bespoke kitchens, bathrooms and interiors.

Since then, Leonie has gone from strength to strength, collecting almost 20 national design awards on the way, including the coveted NKBA Kitchen Designer of the Year on no less than three occasions – a true testament of her creative excellence from her peers.

Leonie keeps in touch with international trends, which has greatly influenced her design aesthetic; so evident in her elegant and timeless work.

Leonie von Sturmer is a professional member of the Designers Institute of New Zealand (MDINZ). Professional membership is awarded only to those designers who enable and achieve creative excellence; exemplars, inspiring the next generation of creative talent and stimulating the design industry. She is also a member of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association (NKBA).
