St Matthew-in-the-City in Hobson Street is one of Auckland's finest churches. The present church was opened in 1905. It was designed by architect Frank Loughborough Pearson in Early English style and constructed of white Oamaru stone set on a bluestone stylobate.
ECC was engaged to design a permanent lighting system for the church that would replace the need to hire lighting for various events. ECC selected products from iGuzzini, an Italian brand with strong credentials in lighting historic buildings around the world.
The fittings selected can colour change from white to any RGB colour. The colour settings are controlled by a laptop, and selected colour combinations can be pre-programmed for added simplicity. This enables the church to colour code individual events.
