The Starter Home Design Competition was organised by the Department of Building and Housing to encourage architects, designers, and those in the building industry to come up with designs and solutions for good quality, affordable and energy efficient homes that show what can be done with limited resources.
With a trend to building larger homes compounding the increasing cost of houses, the competition promoted the use of clever design to create smaller-sized homes that offer quality, affordable options.
Frans Kamermans' submission was one of ten finalists selected from 140 entries.

Judges comments:

Frans Kamermans' clever modular plan and stylish and contemporary exterior will appeal to many people. The plan will adapt to many sites in orientation and layout and can grow as needs arise.
