Waikato University ÖkoFEN Energy Box Installation

Installation of a ÖkoFEN Energy Box for the student village at the Waikato University in Hamilton. The installation is set to reduce CO2 emissions in the building by 98% and is part of an EECA funded trial for the most effective decarbonisation options at Waikato University.

This ÖkoFEN Energy Box has been installed in the student village and will be providing central heating and domestic hot water for the building.  It contains a modern ÖkoFEN pellet boiler which replaces the old gas boiler and gas hot water cylinders the were previously being used to heat the building and its waterthat. This will not only reduce the CO2 emissions by 98%, but will also be cutting the ongoing running costs with use of wood pellets.

The ÖkoFEN Energy Box is entirely modular and there is enough space inside this single container to expand the pellet boiler capacity and heat another three student buildings.

ÖkoFEN pellet boilers are a type of biomass boiler, using 100% renewable wood fuel to provide central heating, hot water or process heat for any commercial-scale application. They provide an ideal way to reduce your carbon emissions as a direct replacement for fossil fuel gas, coal and diesel boilers.

Apricus Eco Hot Water offers a range of commercial pellet boilers systems.  These can be installed in a plant room or as an ÖkoFEN Energy Box: a plug and play containerised system that arrives pre-commissioned.

An ÖkoFEN Energy Box provides a combined pellet boiler plant room and fuel store, located outside your building and simply connected to power and water. Larger ÖkoFEN pellet boiler systems are always provided as a cascade, providing a high level of redundancy and flexibility in plant room design.
