Tairua House

The owners of this section wanted a beautiful, functional and understated design to sit harmoniously against the older style baches on the Tairua estuary front. There is a public walkway running along the front of the site - and we carefully selected materials that would age quickly and create the aesthetic that the house had been there for a long time - so it did not stick out like a shiny new object.
This was done through use of cedar faced plywood and batten cladding, which silvered off quickly and other muted tones for roof colour etc.
The design concept was based on the old boat-shed form, again, adhering to the surrounding aesthetic.

Evelyn McNamara Architecture Ltd is an Auckland based residential architectural practise formed in May 2009 by Evelyn McNamara.
The practice has a strong focus on design that adheres to clean, simple, modern lines whilst engaging the specific requirements of both the site and the client.
We believe that both form and materials need to be designed to adhere to the specific characteristics of a site, whilst also meeting all elements of the clients brief – both in terms of program and budget. We believe modern living in New Zealand should engage with the surrounding environment in well-designed homes with an environmentally friendly focus.
We focus largely on high end residential new build projects.
Evelyn is a Registered Architect under the NZRAB (first registered in 2008) and is an Architect and Practice member of the NZIA. In 2016 Evelyn was appointed to the NZ Registered Architects Board assessors panel.
