Building a Reputation for Excellence

Specialising in architecturally designed, energy-efficient luxury homes, Hedger Constructions has built a reputation for creating residences with exceptional craftsmanship that transcend the traditional.

For directors Steven and Sharon Hedger, building homes is deeply personal. A family-owned business with generations of tradespeople in its DNA, Hedger Constructions is driven by an unwavering belief in the importance of home, family and community. “Family and community are the core values of Hedger Constructions,” explains Steven. That philosophy extends throughout the business, with Steven’s brothers playing integral roles as estimator and site supervisor, while the next generation is already involved — Steven and Sharon’s son Isaac as an area manager, and their daughter Ellie as a part of the finance and marketing teams.

This hands-on, collaborative approach is evident in every project Hedger Constructions undertakes. Working closely with clients and architects from initial concept through to completion, the team ensures each home is tailored to its site, lifestyle requirements and architectural vision. “As a family company, we never lose sight of the fact that we’re building your home,” says Steven. “A home is more than a structure, it’s where family life unfolds. We want people to love living in their homes and create a lifetime of memories there.”

That ethos comes to life in this Anglesea home, where bush meets beach in a bold yet balanced contemporary design by Martin Rubenstein of Format Architects. Positioned along the Great Ocean Road, the home responds sensitively to its rugged coastal environment while delivering a refined modern aesthetic.
Designed with simplicity, durability and sustainability at its core, the home features a distinctive curved façade and an expansive upper-level terrace that cantilevers over the entry, framing panoramic ocean views. A dramatic rammed earth wall guides visitors via floating concrete stairs to an oversized spotted gum pivot door, setting the tone for the material-rich experience within.

Rammed earth forms much of the home’s structure, chosen for its remarkable longevity, thermal performance and luxurious texture. Combined with concrete and spotted gum, materials selected for their ability to weather beautifully, the home sits comfortably within its natural surrounds while offering superior comfort year-round.

Inside, the neutral palette and natural timbers accompany artisan elements including bespoke concrete benchtops, polished plaster wet areas, V-ZUG appliances, American Oak joinery and brushed gold tapware to create a layered, tactile interior. The thoughtfully designed floorplan accommodates large family gatherings, while offering private retreats with a downstairs entertainment zone, built in custom sauna, and outdoor deck with plunge pool. Centred around a light-filled courtyard, the home’s design enhances passive solar performance and reduces energy consumption.

With over 30 Master Builders Association awards to their name, Hedger Constructions continues to set the benchmark for luxury custom homes across Melbourne and regional Victoria. This Anglesea residence stands as a testament to their commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability and homes built to last—both for generations of families and against the ever-changing coastal landscape.
