Building a Strong Team at Richie’s Brick and Block

Great workmanship starts with having a great team behind it. At Richie’s Brick and Block, building a positive team culture has been an important part of the business since the beginning.

We work closely together, look out for one another and share the same commitment to producing work we can be proud of. Over time, that approach has helped create a team that people genuinely want to remain part of.

A team that sticks together

Many of our team members have now been with Richie’s Brick and Block for at least five years. A couple joined the business straight from school, while one team member has been here since the company began in 2013.

That kind of longevity means a lot to us. Bricklaying is very much a team effort, particularly on large or technically challenging projects, so being able to rely on the people around you makes a real difference.

Our shared goal is simple: do the best job possible while creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work.

Developing skills and craftsmanship

Producing high-quality brick and block work requires skill, patience and an eye for detail. It is also an industry that continues to evolve as architectural styles, construction methods and materials change.

That is why we invest in helping our team develop their skills and take on work that challenges them.

Continuing to learn allows our bricklayers to tackle increasingly detailed and technically demanding projects. It also helps us maintain the standard of workmanship that has seen Richie’s Brick and Block recognised at the national Master Brick and Blocklayers Excellence Awards.

Those skills have helped our team become involved in some exciting residential, commercial and multi-unit developments throughout Christchurch.

More than just work

A good team culture isn't only built on the work site. Spending time together away from work gives everyone the opportunity to relax, have a laugh and get to know each other outside their day-to-day roles.

We regularly organise team activities and nights out. One recent adventure was an overnight fishing trip to Kaikōura, giving the crew a chance to spend some quality time together away from bricks, blocks and building sites.

It's all part of creating the family atmosphere that has become an important part of Richie’s Brick and Block.

Continuing to grow

A strong team and consistently high-quality work have helped us build lasting relationships across Christchurch's building and property development industry.
