Having your switchboard inspected helps to ensure that no safety issues arise from degradation or electrical faults. This post explains.

Good annual inspections of your main switchboard from a competent qualified electrician will prevent circumstance of what’s pictured below from happening.

What do you get from completing a visual switchboard inspection with us?

Orange Mini Electrical will check the following requirements for you and report on the following;

  • Cables show no evidence of insulation deterioration
  • Corrosion on the main earth electrode
  • Continuity of bonding on mental water pipes
  • Mechanical damage of socket outlets and overloading
  • Lamp holders for mechanical damage
  • Switchboard and electrical equipment have no conductor damage
  • RCDs, MCBs, fuses and switches have mechanical damage
  • Semi enclosed re-wireable have not deteriorated due to arching and have no exposed live parts
  • Switchboard equipment correctly labeled
  • Cover to fixed wired appliances are not broken
  • Electrical fittings in damps areas have the correct IP Protection
  • Overhead lines insulation deterioration and anchorage’s
  • Safety distances of overheads lines have not been compromised; and
  • Report on what’s been completed

Why would you do this?

Reassurance that your power supply won’t let you down due to deterioration or failure of components, negligence, prevention loss to your asset and possibly prevent the loss of life to your loved ones. Prevention of the following that could have happened in this case.

Checking these items yourself without experience or expertise could put you in harms way.

Outcome

I seen good, bad and ugly and this one certainly takes the cake. After completing this inspection the customer agreed on a full replacement of the Main Switchboard to current standards

Why was this like this? And how did it get to this state?

Many answers could be concluded, remember prevention is better than replacement at last resort.

In this Case it was lucky that no person or property was seriously harmed.
