The CHADA design team was asked to create a luxury country getaway in the heart of Wolgan Valley in New South Wales. Nestled between the mountainous ridges in Lithgow, west of the Blue Mountains National Park, the property had to reflect its rural surroundings, making a quintessential homestead the aesthetic of choice for Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley.
The 46 villas and main homestead building were architecturally planned to work in harmony with the topography of the site, with natural materials used throughout the structure to ensure the built environment reflected that of the natural. Timber, leather, wool, woven detailing and rattan are all used within the interior design scheme, with natural stone, linen window furnishings and antique-inspired lighting bringing a depth of character to the composition.
The colour palette takes inspiration from the local bushland, with off-whites, yellow, muted green and grey key to the selection. Cushions, throw blankets, ottomans and smartly-arranged vignettes serve to build interest within the villas, while an abundance of glazing celebrates the breathtaking views.

The internal walls of the villas are painted in soft shades of yellow and green, but the soft furnishings such as bedding, blankets, curtains and bench seats are all in neutral hues. This has been done to create visual balance within the space, so no one element competes against another. This method of colour palette construction can be used in any home, the key is to choose wall colours that are soft, rather than saturated.
Hanging above the living area is an oversized tactile pendant constructed from natural linen and woven materials. This central piece functions as a gentle focal point within the space; it draws the eye upwards, ‘zones’ the living area within an open-plan villa and initiates a sense of purpose within the space. Create a focal point in your own home by placing an oversize artwork in pride of place, or hanging a dramatic pendant from your ceiling.
