Enhanced Durability with ACTIVATE™ Technology.

So, what exactly is ACTIVATE™ technology? 

As a simple description, currently COLORSTEEL® is made up of a steel substrate with an Aluminium Zinc (AZ) metallic alloy coating, before the paint system is applied.  Patent protected ACTIVATE™ Technology introduces to COLORSTEEL® a new Aluminium, Zinc & Magnesium (AM) metallic coating. Unlike traditional AZ coatings, which offer robust protection, the addition of magnesium in the AM coating significantly assists in slowing down corrosion, extending the corrosion to perforation lifespan of COLORSTEEL®​.  ACTIVATE™ technology was specifically designed to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance.

Although AM metallic alloy coatings have been available internationally for a while, not all AM coatings are made the same way.  The magic in our ACTIVATE™ technology is around the strategic positioning of the magnesium compounds at the top and bottom of the coating, to deliver enhanced corrosion resistance, enabling a sizeable step change in the warranties offered, now up to 50 years.

We understand that confidence in product longevity is an important consideration when choosing products. Our new single substrate solution COLORSTEEL MAXAM® offers significantly improved warranties versus COLORSTEEL ENDURA & MAXX® with a headline corrosion to perforation warranty in mild environments of up to 50 years with increases across all environmental categories. Commercial warranties are now aligned to Residential warranties providing project owners with great peace of mind in their product selection no matter the usage.  

Sustainability at Its Core

New Zealand Steel’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the recent substantial investment in an Electric Arc Furnace, due to be operation in early 2026, that will drastically reduce carbon emissions, the country’s biggest decarbonisation effort to date. COLORSTEEL MAXAM® further builds our sustainability credentials through its enhanced corrosion performance allowing a sizable step change in corrosion and perforation warranty of up to 50 years, greatly improving the design life of COLORSTEEL® roofing and cladding.
