Championing Monier tiles, this multi-unit development in the heart of Manukau, Auckland, has taken home yet another award.

Kōtuitui in Māori means ‘to connect’, a name gifted by Te Ākitai Waiohua to the development. These homes connect to mana whenua, to the land, to the community, the landscape and the city.

This unique project continues to redefine the intertenancy world, with Monier Terracotta tiles as wall cladding being a key feature.

Most recently the project, lead by Crosson Architects, was awarded a Te Kāhui Whaihanga (New Zealand Institute of Architects) Auckland Architecture 2023 award, in the Housing – multi-unit category.

The NZIA jury summed up the project with these words: ‘This ground-breaking project proves that low rise, multi-unit housing in New Zealand can be unique, affordable and truly inspiring. Simple planning strategies combine with innovative formal expression and material application in ways that defy the project’s antipodean location.’

This latest award adds to previous accolades on the project, including RANZ Residential Roof of the Year (2022) and Winstone Wallboards Residential Project Award.

“The striking building is clad top to bottom using Monier Terracotta Urban Shingle tiles, giving it a truly unique look, superior building performance and enduring quality.” - Rooflink Magazine (Spring Issue 2022)

Made from natural clay and baked at a temperature of over 1100°, baking the colour right into the tile, Monier Terracotta tiles last a lifetime and are supported by 50 year colour & performance guarantee.

For a unique, on-trend aesthetic and a trusted roofing solution that stands up to tough climate conditions, choose Monier.
