House of the year 2022 – Iconic Construction

The design brief was a 3-bedroom home with simple yet striking street appeal. With elevated neighbours on two of the three sides, there was no real view from the site.

So, together with Edwards White, we designed a house that would utilise a very private area in the rear part of the section, with all living areas tucked away from the road, and still retain the great flow from the living to the outdoor entertaining areas

The concept was to have a home that reveals more of itself as you progress from the entrance through to the living and sleeping areas. We wanted people who are lucky enough to visit the home to be constantly surprised by the thoughtful design, finding cool new features around every turn. We ourselves were surprised to find that the house was almost a mirror image of itself from certain angles.

A main feature and, given the current work from home environment, was to have a study that could be shut away and appear to not even exist at night for that work/life balance. Air flow and natural lighting were another focus on this build and lead to the installation of automated skylights.
