Innovation, accessibility and excellence have been the leading values for Décortech and Plytech. By consolidating each brand’s strengths and merging to form one brand, Plytech Panels’ goal is to be the most accessible supplier in New Zealand – offering a broad range of solutions that simplify processes for the industry.
“The new brand embodies our commitment to being at the forefront of the industry, providing the widest expertise and a hands-on approach to every project,” says Plytech Panels’ Harmen Kamsteeg.
“Our goal is to empower architects, designers and professionals across various industries with the products and support they need to realise their visions effectively and efficiently.”
A significant milestone in the brand’s journey towards providing comprehensive, innovative solutions in the plywood and panelling industry, the merger sees the combination of Plytech’s extensive range of plywood products and Décortech’s expertise in custom architectural panels – creating a one-stop shop for professionals across various industries.
“This merger means enhanced service as our customers can now enjoy a wider array of product offerings, including custom solutions, under one brand. Professionals can expect streamlined communication, simplified project management, and access to a broader spectrum of expertise and capabilities, all aimed at delivering unparalleled value and innovation in their projects.”
Significantly expanding the range of products and services available under one company, Plytech Panels can cater to a diverse range of applications and industries.
“We now offer an enriched lineup of plywood and panel products suitable for commercial, retail, architectural, joinery, marine, construction, engineering and transport applications,” says Kamsteeg.
“Our enhanced manufacturing capabilities, including CNC work and a variety of finishes, means we can provide customised grooving, cutting and coating options, offering more pre-finished products to our clients. This comprehensive range, from high-quality off-the-shelf plywood panels to bespoke architectural solutions, ensures we can meet the specific needs of any project.”

While the merger and transition into Plytech Panels is still underway, both Plytech and Décortech have been involved in stunning projects that underscore the capabilities and quality that can be achieved – and will only be enhanced – under the new brand.
A recent example is Plytech’s collaboration with RCG at the Wai Ariki Spa Resort in Rotorua. A stand-out development, the project features extensive use of Plytech’s Birch Decor Oak panels across various applications including retail areas, feature wall linings, and even art pieces.
“The panels received a mix of clear and black coatings, with intricate designs achieved through CNC work,” says Kamsteeg. “It’s worth noting that the CNC detailing and coating was facilitated by external partners, highlighting the collaborative effort required to bring such a visionary project to fruition.”
Under the new Plytech Panels brand, processes like this will become significantly more streamlined with both CNC machining and coating capabilities now in-house.
“We can offer a more cohesive and efficient service to our clients, making it easier than ever to achieve custom, high-quality finishes.”
A showcase of Décortech’s Trespa Meteon panels and 12mm Firesafe MDF panels with Lusitania Veneer, Mairehau High School’s Waikākariki Building, designed by WSP Architecture and installed by the Switched On Group, is another example of the brand’s commitment to delivering high-quality, customised solutions.
“These projects showcase the level of innovation, customisation and quality that Plytech and Décortech have offered. As Plytech Panels, we are excited to bring these capabilities together, offering an even more streamlined and comprehensive service to our clients, simplifying the process of achieving detailed and customised architectural solutions.”
A versatile material, plywood can be effective in sound insulation when used correctly – especially when integrated into acoustic panels designed for this purpose.
“Recent innovations in this space include the development of specialised acoustic plywood panels that feature unique perforations and grooves, enhancing their sound-absorbing capabilities. These technological advancements have allowed us to offer products that not only meet the aesthetic demands of architects and designers but also address the practical need for sound management in various environments,” says Kamsteeg.
“Our continuous investment in research and development ensures that we remain that the cutting-edge of acoustic solutions.”
