A well-designed home is more than a collection of rooms. It is how those spaces come together to make everyday living feel easier, brighter, and more connected.
For this home renovation project in Mt. Eden, Auckland, Licensed Renovations reimagined the connection between the kitchen and living room, creating a more welcoming and functional environment for family life.
Bringing the Kitchen and Living Room Together
The kitchen and living room are often the heart of a home. Opening up these spaces can transform how homeowners use and enjoy their interiors.
An open, connected layout can help to:
Improve everyday flow by making movement between the kitchen and living room more natural.
Encourage family connection by allowing people to cook, relax, and socialise together.
Create a greater sense of space through a more open and visually connected interior.
Make entertaining easier with a welcoming layout for hosting friends and family.
Whether preparing dinner, helping the children with their activities, or enjoying a quiet evening together, a thoughtfully designed layout helps make everyday moments more enjoyable.
More Than Just an Open-Plan Layout
Opening up a home is not simply about removing walls or creating a larger room. It is about understanding how each space functions and how the people living there want to use it.
A successful renovation considers:
The relationship between different living areas
How natural light and sightlines influence the feel of a room
The practical needs of the household
Finishes and design details that bring the overall space together
With careful planning and execution, homeowners can make better use of their existing footprint without necessarily needing to extend their property.
