We set out with the mission to reduce paint’s impact on the environment and our health, with a formula that’s crafted by ingredients from mother nature herself.

Do you think about the indoor air quality of your home? Don’t worry, most don't. But we do, on the daily!

More than ever, we’re looking for ways to be more conscious consumers. When making choices, the environment and their health are kept well within our field of vision. Naturally, when deciding on paint, indoor air quality is now no longer an afterthought. Enter, Natural Paint Co. —this is the reason we do what we do.

We set out with the mission to reduce paint’s impact on the environment and our health, with a formula that’s crafted by ingredients from mother nature herself. By leaving out the nasties our paint is natural enough to go into your compost. That’s pretty bonkers if you ask us! Through this process it was important not to drop the ball on quality— what’s the point in convincing people to make a change if the paint’s not going to do the job properly.

Making sustainable choices is possible when companies are transparent. We want you to be curious about what’s going into our paint. After all, you’re inviting us into your home. To school-up on the ingredients we use, our website houses a full ingredient list.

Key ingredient cheat sheet—

  • Titanium Dioxide - giving body and coverage.
  • Calcium carbonate - an extender that creates an even paint film.
  • Mānuka Oil - bacterial and mould inhibitor (smells good too).
  • Diatomaceous Earth - improves performance and replaces additives.
  • Quartz Powder - for appearance and durability.
  • Castor Oil - for binding and water resistance.
  • Water - non toxic solvent that controls flow and application.

These pieces to the natural paint puzzle are sourced sustainably, ensuring the integrity of our mission throughout the entire product journey. We source locally where possible, with mānuka oil from a central North Island farm and our paint manufacturing taking place in Auckland. High quality ingredients are also key to ensuring our paint keeps up with chemical based alternatives on the playing field— no one wants chalky paint.

Solving the Paint Problem

With such a focus on sustainability, it was a no-brainer to offset our emissions and become carbon neutral by planting trees in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. We also do our bit in saving the Amazon rainforest — for every square metre of paint used inside your home, we save one square metre of rainforest. That’s around eight car park spaces per ten litre pail. To date we’ve saved over two million square metres — a massive joint achievement for our Christchurch-based company and our customers.

In line with helping to preserve the natural environment, it’s principle that we consider the entire life cycle of our paint. In the case that you’re left with excess product, we’ll happily take returns. These are donated to local organisations that provide creative, educational experiences for the community such as local art school TOI Collective.

Making choices that are influenced by sustainability and wellbeing can feel daunting at times. We like to think that we’re opening a whole new chapter on paint, providing a solution to those that care. Invite us into your home and we’ll work on making better choices for our big blue planet together.
