In a recent conversation with the team at 2K Limited, ArchiPro delved into the intricacies of its new-to-market product offerings, including steel-look windows and thermally broken sliding doors.
Auckland-based 2K Limited has unveiled a new high-performance window solution that mimics the look of steel while utilising aluminium. This provides an innovative option for cost-conscious clients seeking the desirable steel look.
The company’s new system bridges the gap for designers between aesthetic appeal and project affordability.
"Everyone likes steel windows, but no one wants to pay for steel windows because they're quite expensive,” says Jonas Drewling, Marketing Manager at 2K Limited.
“Our new EC-125 range looks like steel, but it is constructed of aluminium; it’s cost-effective yet architecturally impressive.”
Modern windows often incorporate double or triple glazing, which enhances the insulation properties of the building. These features not only reduce energy bills but also contribute to a building's overall sustainability, making them a cost-effective investment in the long run.
One of the key highlights of 2K Limited is its exclusive product range in New Zealand, which adheres to the latest energy regulations. "All our product ranges are exclusive in New Zealand. There is no other manufacturer in the country offering our products," says Drewling. "We provide high quality but at an affordable price."
In response to New Zealand's H1 requirements, 2K Limited has developed double-glazed vertical sliding windows, providing a previously unavailable solution. "We have our vertical sliding windows, which are taking off. They are double-glazed, meeting New Zealand's H1 requirements."
The Thermeco aluminium product line, notably the 115 series, remains a cornerstone of 2K Limited’s offerings. "All products in our Thermeco aluminium range are thermally broken," says Drewling.
This design feature enhances energy efficiency by preventing the transfer of heat or cold through the frame. Drewling explains, "Thermal break technology makes these window and door systems up to 66 per cent more efficient than conventional windows.
“Essentially, thermally broken windows and doors have a barrier between the inside and outside profile, creating an insulated wall within the window frame. Resulting in a reduction in the transfer of heat and cold when combined with double-glazing," Drewling adds.
We spend the time and effort to come up with solutions matching the specifier's design without compromising their design intent."
Drewling remarks that what sets the company apart is its ability to provide bespoke solutions to specifiers. "Yes, we manufacture windows and doors, but usually, the architects who work with us come to us with unique designs," says Drewling. "We spend the time and effort to come up with solutions matching the design without compromising their design intent."
Architectural window design has broken the restraints of what were once a few standard shapes and sizes. This noticeable expansion of bespoke options enables specifiers to tailor their windows to the unique architectural style of their project designs – turning concepts into fruition. For instance, large picture windows create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, while arch-shaped windows can be striking focal points in a room.
Drewling remarks the company can also provide custom-made hardware, ensuring the cohesive design of all project elements. "The handle on the window can match the handle on the kitchen cabinets—architects love this ability to flow their designs throughout the project," says Drewling.
One of the most significant advantages for architects is the comprehensive support 2K Limited provides throughout the design process. "Most architects come to us with their first concept design. Where other door and window manufacturers simply get a window schedule, we sit down with architects from the initial idea stage and work with them to bring their design to life," says Drewling.
This collaborative approach ensures that even the most ambitious designs can be realised. "We work through technical and design solutions, from building envelope works to performance and, of course, from an aesthetic point of view," Drewling adds.
2K Limited’s unique position as both a manufacturer and supplier, alongside its commitment to enhancing architectural design with innovative solutions, has specifiers queuing for more. The company stands out not only for its high-quality products but also for its dedication to supporting architects and designers through every step of the process. Its innovative solutions, exclusive offerings, and commitment to customisation make it a valuable partner in the architectural community.
As they continue to develop and introduce new products, 2K Limited is poised to lead the market with cutting-edge, affordable, and aesthetically pleasing options that meet the evolving needs of architects and their clients and inspire new design ideas.
