Synchro Mech chairs – the benefits of tension control

After years of providing trial chairs to our customers, we know that choosing a chair comes down to personal preferences.

And thanks to a number of studies into workplace ergonomics, we know some of the negative effects of a sedentary workplace. Developments in chair and desk ergonomics have helped us be more active at work.

For many workplaces – in particular ‘Home’ during Covid 19 – many people are sitting at kitchen tables and standard, fixed height desks.  A height adjustable desk is not necessarily practical or affordable.

In addition, in open plan offices, the advent of hot desking in recent years has meant many office workers are sharing chairs – hardly a personalised solution.

So how can we adapt our workplace to suit our own bodies and help us be more ‘active’ and flexible at work, wherever that may be?

One solution is a task chair with a Synchronous or Synchronised Mechanism.

A synchro mech chair has a tilt mechanism that moves both the back and seat together automatically as you move, for constant, optimum support. It allows you to recline as you chat on the phone or read at your desk and is perfect for extended team meetings, encouraging gentle movement.

A synchro mech chair has a lever to adjust the height of the chair, and many models come with a tilt lock that allows you to lock your chair into a particular position.

But a weight activated synchro mechanism takes the synchro chair to a whole new level. A weight-activated synchro mech adjusts to your body weight to control the speed of the chair’s movement. This ensures the chair moves to suit the individual – no manual controls required. The Serati Body Weight chair is a new chair in our range that is a great example of this.

In our experience though, sometimes the weight activated chairs require a bit of force for some people to recline, or for others, the back moves back too quickly!

The Serati Pro-Control chair solves this problem. It features a quick tension adjustment on the underside of the chair that allows you to alter the force required for you to move the chair comfortably.  A dynamic chair that allows you to move, moves with you, and supports you at the same time.

Why not consider a synchro mech chair for your current work set up? After all, you are likely spending 50% of your day in a sedentary position at your desk, and likely feeling fatigued and stiff at the end of each workday due to lack of movement.  A synchro chair will help get you moving more!

The Serati Pro-Control and Body Weight models are available in a fully upholstered, leather and mesh back. View the Serati Mesh back here.

All models feature the highly-regarded Donati Synchro mechanism, come with a 10 year warranty and a 160kg weight guarantee.  Does not get any better than that!
