To live is to feel: How Australia’s connoisseurs are
enjoying the finer things at home

More and more of Sydney’s connoisseurs—those who seek life’s finest experiences—are realising that a fundamental part of their lives is woefully understimulated: their emotions.

And they’re correcting this by including truly premium musical experiences into their home designs.

It’s not to say that modern everyday life isn’t emotional. It is. But it lacks a full palette and often leaves so much of who we truly are unexpressed and, in a sense, pent up.

The canvas of life can be painted in various colours and should be. Hence why the cinema industry isn’t just dominated by films that make us feel “good” – dramas, thrillers, and horror films draw billions in box office revenue each year. In truth, the most profound cinematic experiences often make us feel sorrowful, melancholic, perplexed, provoked, lustful, even shocked and horrified.

Yet, as so many have found, an at-home cinema experience still doesn't compare with that of music reproduced by a premium audio system. This is partly because films demand thinking, detracting from the powerful effect sound alone can have on our emotions.

Like premium watches, premium audio systems have incredible technology under the hood and are meticulously crafted by lifelong artisans. What it takes to accurately recreate the vibrations of half a dozen instruments and a singer’s vocal cords—in the comfort of your home—is astounding.

Like watches, owning a fine audio system—each piece designed not only to perform at the highest level but also to add beauty and prestige to your home—creates an irresistible, lasting sense of satisfaction.

The difference is that a premium audio system doesn’t tell you the time.

Make no mistake: songs and styles of music that you love can touch your emotions, even when played by cheap, ordinary speakers. But they make a paltry, abrasive attempt... and the mind knows the difference.

If you’ve ever watched a sunset while overlooking a vista of beach, headland, and forest that stretches as far as you can see and then tried to capture that feeling with even a high-quality photograph, then you know how enormous the difference is.

To be clear, these premium audio systems bear little relationship to the “high-end” hi-fi speakers and amplifiers you usually find – even in most specialist stores. Brilliant artisans and engineers often design those products, yes. But they’re planned, designed, and built for product-market fit and scalable production. Boundaries are imposed on the craft, blunting end performance – like an otherwise divine espresso shot burned by a hurried barista.

Contrast that to an audio system crafted by a world-class artisan with one aim: recreate the emotional experience the musical artists intended.

The ears are exposed to clear, rich, immersive sound that can put you in a different time and place. One that captures the artist's feelings and whatever inspired them and delivers it to you in lucid detail – nourishing your soul with emotions.
