Plum Pudding Mahogany, also known as 'plum pudding' or 'acajou mouchet', is a rare and highly sought-after variety of mahogany wood with distinctive swirling patterns and rich colours. It was particularly prized in the decorative arts during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, especially in French Empire period furniture. Due to its limited availability and exquisite appearance, Plum Pudding Mahogany was highly prized during the French Empire period. It became synonymous with luxury and superior craftsmanship, and its use in furniture-making epitomized the refined taste and opulence of the era. Today, antique pieces crafted from Plum Pudding Mahogany remain highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of the decorative arts from the 18th and 19th centuries.
