COLORSTEEL Endura® Steel Roof & Wall Cladding

COLORSTEEL ENDURA® is the roof of choice for New Zealanders right around the country. It consists of an AZ150 Zincalume® steel substrate to which a multi coated paint system is applied. Designed in conjunction with global leaders in both paint technology and the manufacturing of pre-painted steel products, the system provides protection against corrosion in areas where moderate to severe environmental conditions are experienced. The COLORSTEEL Endura® paint system will exceed the service life of most traditional post painted systems.

Boasting a range of colours and profiles, COLORSTEEL Endura® is suited to everything from residential to commercial buildings; and from traditional styles to contemporary designs.

Features

COLORSTEEL Endura® is suitable for a wide range of applications including long run roofing, wall cladding, rainwater goods, sheds and fencing.

Note: When designing your home, consider which profile is appropriate - each profile has a minimum pitch below which it should not be installed and certain profiles are only suitable for certain applications. Discuss your requirements with the designer or contact your local roll-former for further information.

Performance Attributes:

Appearance:

  • COLORSTEEL Endura® is available in various top coat colours. The standard backer is Perpetual Grey®, but is also available with a double-sided coating to suit customer’s needs
  • Colour retention (CIE Lab units Delta E) is 8 units maximum after 10 years exposure, and 10 units maximum after 15 years exposure. Chalk rating (AS 1580:481.1.11:1998) is no more than 4 after 10 years exposure
  • Solar reflectance and light reflectance values vary with colour, refer to the COLORSTEEL® Light Reflectance brochure for details.

Fire Resistance:

  • COLORSTEEL Endura® is rated as a Group 1-S material and has an average specific extinction area of 132.2 m²/kg, a peak heat release rate of 16.0 kW/m² and total heat released of 0.54 MJ/m² when tested in accordance with ISO 5660:2002 Part 1 and Part 2.

Drinking Water:

  • COLORSTEEL Endura® samples tested in accordance with AS/NZS 4020:2005 passed the requirements for products in contact with drinking water.
  • The first 25mm of rainfall from a newly installed roof must be discarded before drinking water collection starts.

Standards:

  • Steel substrate may be either G300 or G550 consistent with AS 1397:2011
  • Metallic coating is consistent with AS 1397:2011
  • COLORSTEEL Endura® is Product Type 4 consistent with AS/NZS 2728:2013
  • Tolerances are consistent with the requirements of AS/NZS 1365:1996
Guidelines for Use

Limitations of Use:

COLORSTEEL Endura® products are not recommended for the following applications:

  • Intensive animal shelters, where the build-up of alkaline fumes may occur
  • Swimming Pools, and other structures with continually wet internal environments
  • Buildings with harsh internal environments such as galvanising plants, tanneries and meat works
  • Fertiliser works
  • Embedded in concrete
  • In contact with soil, bark or similar
  • Geothermal areas

Copper or brass pipes must not be allowed to discharge onto or come into contact with COLORSTEEL® pre-painted steel products. The use of other materials in proximity to COLORSTEEL Endura® must be carefully considered – the COLORSTEEL® Incompatible Materials bulletin should be used as reference. 

The mixing of COLORSTEEL® brands, such as Endura® and Maxx®, between accessory feed and roof cladding is acceptable where appropriate. However, mixing with other brands of pre-painted materials on the same building is not recommended. 

Handling & Storage:

If COLORSTEEL® pre-painted steel products are to be stored for any time prior to forming or installation, they must be stored in dry, well ventilated conditions. Storage which allows water (including condensation) to be trapped between the sheets may damage the coating beyond repair. COLORSTEEL® pre-painted steel products must be handled carefully during transport, fabrication and fixing to avoid damaging the surface.

Warranty and Maintenance

Warranty:

COLORSTEEL Endura® pre-painted steel products are warranted up to and including severe environments for roofing, spouting and fascia. While cladding will be warranted in moderate environments only. Please refer to New Zealand Steel's Environmental Categories, Warranty and Product Maintenance Recommendation Brochure for further information.

When you order your COLORSTEEL® pre-painted steel roof or rainwater products, remember to request your COLORSTEEL® warranty from your supplier. 

Maintenance:

Areas of COLORSTEEL Endura® pre-painted steel that are not regularly washed with rain water, such as wall claddings, must be routinely washed to remove surface deposits to ensure satisfactory life is obtained from the product. Check guttering and downpipes regularly and remove any debris which may lead to ponding or flooding. Always wear soft soled shoes when walking on COLORSTEEL® pre-painted surfaces to avoid causing damage.
