Solid Oak Flooring

Solid oak flooring is flooring material made out of a single piece of timber, usually cut into a tongue-and-groove profile that is installed to the subfloor by nailing through the tongue on a diagonal into the floorboard and into the subfloor below.

Engineered Oak Flooring

Engineered oak is made of a top layer of solid oak wood and bonded to an engineered board made up of multiple layers of plywood. Product warranties on engineered flooring products can range from 10-25 years. Engineered oak flooring comes with a range of edge profiles, square edge, bevelled and micro-bevelled.

​1. Select the Grade You Want

Timber grading can really add to the character and personality of your timber flooring. Rustic and Farmhouse grades feature knots, and band-sawn cuts if requested to achieve a lived-in feel. Some prefer cleaner boards that don't feature as many knots.

There are a number of oil and polyurethane finishes available. From natural tones to coastal whitewashes, and from warm browns to cool greys and black tones, the colours are endless!

• Oil Finish - ​Oil colours are vast and allow the floor to look better over time with a regular floor cleaning and maintenance routine. Some oil finishes on the market are low VOC or VOC-free, making them safe for pets and children.
• Polyurethane Finish - Choosing a polyurethane finish suits some homeowners more than oils. This is a personal preference depending on how much cleaning you're willing to do to care for your floor. Again, a wide range of colours. Plus, the choice of gloss, semi-gloss, matte, and extra matte finishes.
