Designed by Vincent Van Duysen, Octave is a system of modular sofas featuring rigorous shapes.
The source of Vincent Van Duysen’s inspiration for his new project are those wide skyscraper windows that offer breathtaking views over cosmopolitan megacities while comfortably seated on inviting sofas and armchairs.
"A subtle study of proportions, creating a graphic interplay of geometric volumes." - Vincent Van Duysen
Blade-like extruded steel legs support the base on which rest low rectangular textile or leather upholstered backrests, of the same thickness as the cosy seat cushions.
Octave offers open elements with which to create chaises longues or poufs that can be arranged alongside the composition or used as free-standing elements, also for the centre of the room.
A design marked by geometrical lines, based on mix & match modular elements that came together in linear, angular compositions or with the addition of hanging trapezoidal or rectangular elements in unusual and highly appealing configurations.
"Protection is something very important that we all need and that is something that I want to translate into my architectural and design work" - Vincent Van Duysen

Vincent Van Duysen was born in 1962, in Lokeren, Belgium and graduated in architecture at the Higher Institute of Architecture Sint-Lucas, in Ghent. From 1986 to 1989 he worked in Milan and Brussels. He opened his own studio in Antwerp, in 1990 focusing on architecture and interior design.
The relationship between interior design and architecture in his work is profound. Furnishings and accessories are designed with an architectural perspective that is not limited by form, but is expressed with a careful perception of interior space and its relationship to the exterior architecture. By interpreting architecture and redefining its proportions, Van Duysen creates objects of great purity and simplicity that still retain a concrete character and solid form.
For over 45 years the Dawson family and our wonderful staff have been filling homes with designer furniture sourced from New Zealand and abroad. We travel extensively, collaborating with our manufacturing partners to ensure we bring the best value product we can find. Our philosophy is simple - to showcase great quality, honest furniture from brilliant craftspeople in a welcoming environment.
How do we achieve this?
We are extremely lucky to have fostered strong relationships with renowned international furniture brands and designers including Molteni & C, Timothy Oulton, Dedon and Tribu. Buying directly from international suppliers enables us to remove the added layers of costs and complexity so we can pass the savings on to the consumer.
What is great quality?
We believe it is a fine balance of design and materials. That is why prior to adding any product collections we meet the artisans in their workshops and factories anywhere they manufacture around the world, which involves us spending up to 3 months a year travelling to Asia and Europe. All too often we have been shown cheaper items but they turn out to be inferior. All our staff are highly trained professionals who can tell you about our furniture in detail.
