Groundscrew Foundations for Single-Storey Buildings

Stop Digging groundscrews are the best solution for house and cabin foundations, supporting decking, boardwalks, sheds, greenhouses, conservatories, carports or other structures such as flagpoles, signs or fences. Stop Digging offers a range of screws in different models and sizes to cater to whatever small building project you have in mind, and on whatever terrain. Whether it is soft or hard ground, our screws are installed extremely quickly with no ground disturbance. They can support load immediately so there is no waiting for concrete to set or council consent for smaller structures.

Ground screw, earth screw, screw anchor, earth anchor or pier anchor – this simple and effective foundation has many names. Stop Digging’s ground screw works the same way as a concrete post or pier block, whilst outperforming it across the board. With our helical screws you can quickly and easily set out a stable foundation and begin construction immediately. For smaller structures, there is no need for council consent.

StopDigging offer a full service including design review by a certified engineer, and then access to our network of LBP builders to offer nationwide installation.

Building Consent

New building consent exemptions:

In 2020, new exemptions were brought into place - increasing the size of a single-storey detached building that can be constructed without a consent. Kitchen and bathroom facilities are not included in the exemption. Any plumbing work to a new or current building still requires a building consent, and any electrical work will still have to be carried out by a registered electrician.

Options under this exemption are:

  • Kitset or prefab buildings with a maximum floor area of 30 square metres where a manufacturer or supplier has had the design carried out or reviewed by a Chartered Professional Engineer. Product manufacturers who would like to sell kit sets must engage a chartered professional engineer to sign off on a repeatable kit set design.
  • Buildings with a maximum floor area of 30 square metres where a Licensed Building Practitioner is to carry out or supervise design and construction.
  • Buildings with a maximum floor area of 30 square metres can be built by a non-professional, where only lightweight materials with structural components built in accordance to Building Code compliance B1/AS1 are used.

About the

Groundscrews allow installation of a pile foundation in a fraction of the time it takes with other piling methods.

How do you use our Groundscrews?

Our CodeMark certification allows a simple design process for building consent.

They are an anchor pile to NZ3604. Standard subfloor design is all that is required. For projects outside of 3604, we have multiple design options for cantilever piles, and spot footings with load bearing capacity up to around 150kN, and larger by special order.

We provide a full specification and installation service, including site specific static pile testing, reports and CodeMark declaration for Building Consent.

For large scale developments, small one off houses and decks, or civil engineering projects, especially in areas with sensitive environmental considerations or limited access, the use of StopDigging! groundscrews will massively impact your construction timeline - for the better:

No spoil / mess to clear up.

No excavation inspections.

No weather delays.

Zero construction waste for foundations.

Lower carbon footprint than concrete.
