Standards

  • EN 1179 – Is the standard for the zinc alloy which is 99.995% pure zinc, with traces of titanium, copper and aluminium. Titanium was added in 1960 to increase the hardness of the alloy and prevent ‘creep’ which saw the zinc thickening towards the lower ends of the roof due to the natural softness of the metal.
  • EN 988 – Is the recognized standard for the physical properties, mechanical and dimensional characteristics of the zinc.
  • AS 1562.1 which is relevant for all metals, is the Australian Standard for sheet metal roof and wall cladding. This standard is more relevant for roll formers and installers and concerns the performance of panels.
