About Hinged Doors products

Hinged doors provide home and business owners with sufficient light and soundproofing, quiet operation, and minimised drafts. They're easily operable and can be outfitted with optional accessories, like an automatic door closer. Hinged doors make for excellent entry doors and can also act as dividers between spaces.

Hinged doors provide homes and businesses with a stable, long-lasting entryway. The hinged door remains in its exact position, minimising wear and tear during its usage period.  The range of styles and materials is another reason customers return to them time and time again. ArchiPro offers a varied selection of hinged doors and can find the right one for any home.

Benefits of Hinged Doors

Typical hinged doors are fitted to swing inward, but they can also swing outward to give a room an open feeling.

French

Hinged French doors are designed with wide top and bottom rails, giving the door an enhanced visual effect. For a traditional appearance, rails can be widened. Install hinged French doors to provide easy access to home gardens or decks. They'll also offer an unparalleled in-home view of a yard or surrounding vistas.

Louvred

Louvred hinge doors offer a shutter-style perfect for decks, especially for coastal and lake-side areas. The infills can be opened and closed. Louvred hinged doors can be equipped for automatic operation. They're an ideal addition to any waterfront home.

Chetumel Pair

The Chetumel pair hinged selection is made to measure. These double-sided entry doors are equipped with hand-forged irons studs and even include a security grill. These are excellent statement pieces when acting as the front doors for classically styled homes and villas. Additionally, they can add rustic charm to any barn.

Euroglass

Like glass sliding doors, Euroglass hinged doors are entirely see-through. They're altogether frameless and give rooms an open feeling while still minimising outside sound.

Aluminium

The aluminium hinge door is high on safety and functionality. It's a durable material and can come with a lock. Additionally, the aluminium hinge door can either swing inward or outward, depending on where it is being used. The aluminium hinge is a long-time Kiwi home classic.

Timber

Timber hinged doors, also known as wood hinged, have long been popular for their ease of production and versatility. Timber hinged doors are made locally from the resources accessible. They're budget-friendly options that still add beauty to any home. Wood can be made-per-order and can easily fit into the dimensions of any entryways in a home.

Steel

Steel can elevate the look of a home and office spaces. The material offers both thin frames and thick frames, making it easy to fit in with existing aesthetics. The doors are custom-built and can be made in any size, with glass panelling fitted accordingly.

Hinge Material & Finish

When purchasing a hinged door, one must also consider the style of the hinge itself. Hinges can either blend in or stand out, depending on preference.

For example, a standard white door can pop with a brass or chrome hinge. But if the door is meant to enhance an outside vista, it's best to have the hinge match its accompanying frame.

The durability of the material is also a factor. Steel stands to provide the best durability, but stainless steel and brass are good as well.  Exposure to rain and moisture should guide the material and finish of exterior door hinges.

Hinge Application/Swing

Hinges support both interior and exterior doors. But an essential factor buyers must consider is which way the door needs to swing.

A floor hinge door needs its lower pivot fixed into the floor, a detail to resolve early when specifying steel pivot doors.

For example, some install French hinged doors to enhance the size of a room and give access to an outside view. In this case, a person may decide to have the door swing outward. Doing this maximises the interior space and gives the illusion the outside is indeed part of the room.

However, for front entrances, most opt to have an inward swing. This provides a more welcome feeling to guests as they transition from outside the home to inside.  The front door swing should leave room for visitors to stand clear of the opening.

Size of Door

How many hinges are needed will depend on the thickness and height of the entryway. Multiple hinges help offset the workload of the door. A general rule is to have one hinge per every 76 cm of the door. If purchasing a custom-made door, these factors are discussed with the customer.

Size of Hinge

The thickness and width of a door will dictate the hinge size necessary for optimal functionality. When getting a custom-made door, this will be measured by the designers.  Heavier leaves place greater loads on swing door hardware, so hinge selection needs to account for weight as well as dimensions.

Care & Maintenance

In order to remain at peak operation, the hinge hardware requires occasional upkeep. Opening, closing, and slamming doors can loosen hardware, which results in sagging. Sagging not only looks terrible but leads to excessive wear.

Exterior doors provide security and help keep out elements and pests. If the hardware loosens, it can't perform its job. The maintenance required is simple. It calls for a few drops of penetrating oil and a screwdriver to tighten the fastener screws. Be careful with the oil.

Keep hardware clean with some mild soap and water. Polishes and cleaners are known to damage the finishes found on most doors. Cleaning the hardware keeps the door looking as new as when it was first purchased.

If doors aren't adjusting or closing correctly, then consider contacting professional service to help remount the door. However, taking proper care of the hardware will prevent the need to hire outside help.
