In general, a BBQ should be kept at least ten feet away from any building, and as far away as possible from any overhead greenery that could catch fire in the event of a flare-up.

A flat surface is essential to prevent sliding or toppling over. Keeping the outdoor BBQ clean will further eliminate the chances of sudden spills. All cooking and protection equipment, including a fire extinguisher, should be kept close.
