A ceiling or wall-mounted outdoor heaters are great all-rounders in New Zealand that provide warmth while staying out of the way. These models are usually powered by either electric infrared or natural gas.

Outdoor patio heaters are commonly made to be safe for children and pets. Patio heaters do not burn an open flame, and the base typically remains cool to the touch. Majority of units in New Zealand also feature a safety tilt valve with automated control.

Infrared electric heaters use a lamp to convert electricity into infrared heat which is then transmitted by electromagnetic waves through the air. It’s the objects, rather than air, that absorb the electromagnetic waves. This process is similar to the heat of the Sun, just safer. 

There is no one-size-fits-all solution with outdoor heaters. While most of them will effectively warm an outdoor area, each model comes with unique features and benefits. 

Some installations in New Zealand are more cost-effective in terms of initial investment; others are affordable long-term due to fuel sources and accessories. A fire pit offers the most versatility of use and an array of stylish designs. Propane heaters offer portable and tabletop options, while hanging, ceiling or wall mount models can save valuable floor space. Natural gas outdoor heaters are the most permanent solution, available in standing, in-ground, and hanging versions.
