When choosing the best suitable material for your project consideration should be given to environment, aesthetics and longevity of the product. We offer Copper, Zinc, Colorcote™ Aluminium, Colorcote™ Zincalume™ and Euramax.
Copper is a widely known traditional metal, so why choose it for your project?
At Architectural Metalformers we use alloy 122, which is available in various tempers, finishes and gauges. We choose half hard copper due to superior formability.
Dependent on differing factors (atmosphere and environment) copper will develop a natural patina finish over time.
The physical weathering of copper is due to a direct attack of airborne sulphur compounds. Within the first few weeks of atmospheric exposure it is normal to see some colour changes. During continued exposure the colour changes entirely and is replaced by a typical rich brown colour, known as an oxidized finish.
It is important to note that when using copper in cladding; exposed horizontal surfaces will patina more rapidly than a sloping surface, such as a roof. The advantage of the naturally forming sulphate patina is that it is highly resistant to all forms of atmospheric corrosion, once formed completely.
