Why Screed is Important

Before you lay tiles or any other finished product to your floor, the surface should be flat. This means it should vary by less than 5mm for every three metres of floor. Screed gives you this flat, ready for tiles surface. It is also recommended you screed floors before installing underfloor heating, particularly in new build properties.

Cement is normally used to screed a floor. The mix used gives the floor a smooth and level surface for laying your tiles.

On larger floor areas, movement becomes a problem as it can cause the screed to crack. It is, therefore, necessary to use expansion joints to make the area of each screed section smaller.
