Tomkies Construction is a small building company based in Canterbury, focused on residential new builds. Director and owner Mark Tomkies has over 17 years of experience in the building industry with time spent in a number of different areas including residential, architectural and commercial, with three years helping with the Canterbury rebuild.
At Tomkies Construction we pride ourselves on being focused on quality at every stage of your build, being flexible and with a personal approach to make the building process as stress-free and smooth as possible. Mark is hands-on with the build of every home making sure that every house is built to be your home and not just another number. I work as Operations Manager for a leading company in Residential over cap earthquake repairs and realised that I could not devote the time to build my own house, so looked for a builder who could provide the quality of build that I would expect. Being in the industry meant I knew what to look for and was confident that my costing and predetermined budget was priced correctly. Mark’s quote was competitive and after checking a few houses at various stages for his build quality, was happy that he would be able to produce what I was looking for.
The arrangement was that I would let Mark get on with managing the build, whilst I remained simply the client and didn’t attempt to micro manage the project. I did check as we progressed for key aspects of quality throughout the build and was not disappointed. We engaged Mark to complete an extension of our house to create a self-contained flat for my Mother. This was my first experience with undertaking a project of this nature and Mark was great to work with. He was so patient and understanding with all my questions and was great at explaining the process in a way I could understand.
