How do you create harmony in times of stress and diversity? Focus on family. The central element for this extraordinary family's space was destined to be the island. Why hide it away when it can stand proud and bring together the indoor/outdoor flow. The island featured a flush-mounted cooktop, which the clients will never use, as ninety per cent of the meals they prepare using only the oven. This shift in direction meant the cooktop should not be included in the working triangle, as preference was on the relationship between the sink, ovens & fridge. Ultimately, the exclusion of a rangehood was an easy decision.

An exceptional step in this kitchen design process was the obligation placed on food separation: as this was paramount to the survival of their children who struggle with severe food allergies. Designing space for two separate pantries created independence and inclusion for everyone in the household. Building a space for everyone to come together to enjoy company, create memories and relax meant designing ample bench space that catered to all.

Two boys can be a challenge, so finding ways to bring serenity was a must. The oak slatted wood featured in the island waterfall end and room divider added subtle elements of nature and calm to the kitchen/dining space. The slatted panelling not only served as a feature but as a practical barrier, protecting the bi-folding doors when open. Dekton benchtops and splashbacks brought soft tones with a side of durability.
