SMJ were approached by clients who were downsizing and moving from a large home to a Lake front apartment. They were wanting to completely refresh, upgrade and personalize their new kitchen. The new kitchen brief was:
• This is the last time, it needs to be right and we don’t want to compromise.
• Integrated appliances.
• Clean lines and simplicity.
• Enjoys cooking, preparing and creating food.
• Maximum storage.
• The latest in hardware and storage solutions
• Seated space for casual work, social gatherings.
The starting point for Kitchen Designer Stu Martin was to position the ceiling unit range hood within the existing floor cavity of the upstairs apartment, this in turn located where the cook top would be in the island. Along the back wall, the ovens are placed at an optimum working height. The central pantry includes the Hafele Concepta pocket doors and accessibility into the higher cabinetry was created by using the best hardware solutions. The overall size of the kitchen island needed to be in proportion to suit the long and narrow space within the apartment. Stu was told that the kitchen island needed to look like “a piece of artwork”. The bench top was completed as seamlessly as possible with matching waterfall ends. Two Hafele power pods were fitted into the island bench top for the use of small appliances, computers and phones. The Coconut Acrylic and timber woodgrain compliment each other beautifully with the hero being the richness and texture of the Dekton bench top.
