The installation of a Juralco Louvre roof and a Sanctuary customised automatic gate has ensured that these Auckland homeowners have a safe and secure home with an outdoor living area that has been transformed into a space that can be utilised year-round. The owners wanted to create an area that would be conducive to relaxation and entertaining while considering a young family dynamic. With the mission brief being the promotion of outdoor living, Louvre Roof Concepts, and HomePlus with Yates Electrical, part of Juralco’s network of installers were engaged, to make this project reality.

Very familiar with the changeable nature of Tamaki Makaurau’s weather it was clear from the outset that an opening roof system that was able to regulate sunlight and shade, yet also provide shelter from inclement weather was the ideal solution. The Juralco Louvre Roof with its flexible and easy operation met the requirements of their home. Wall mounted with two posts as shown here is an opening louvre roof system that enables the ability to control the amount of sun, light, airflow, and shade that has ensured a stunning and versatile outdoor space able to be enjoyed year-round.

The driveway gate that was installed at the same property was arranged by HomePlus in conjunction with Yates Electrical, who provided the manufacture and automation of the custom Juralco Sanctuary Gate. This sliding gate which is a custom design, with vertical louvre infill is a stylish and practical barrier that provides handsome street appeal.

Assemble Architects who detailed the design worked closely with Louvre Roof Concepts for the installation of the wall-mounted option for the home, featuring two bays which cover the full width of the deck. With a limited site featuring aluminium sliding doors with little space above the soffit, the architects appreciated how easy it was to adapt the system to the home. “The technical literature from Juralco was comprehensive. The design manual and span tables really aid you to make the design suit your needs,” says the architect. “As it was quite a tight site, we didn’t want unnecessary posts in the way. We were able to design the system to suit, which was a good time saver.”

The powder-coated finish of the aluminium components has achieved a cohesive look with the home’s joinery and weatherboard cladding. The homeowners appreciate the sensibilities of the wall-mounted system, which with its integrated drainage is a practical and cleaner look. “We like the fact the roof is self-draining. When it’s closed, it’s effectively watertight, and any water flows off the roof to the downpipes which are concealed within the posts.” The ability to enjoy the new outdoor living area no matter the weather has had immediate benefits for the homeowners. “We really love how we can create shade in hot weather, shelter in winter, and open the louvres to let light in whenever we want. It’s like adding an extension to the house.” Ultimately, the addition of the Juralco Outdoor Living System and Sanctuary Custom Gate has resulted in a tranquil backyard oasis somewhere the family can rest, relax, or entertain year-round.
