Set on a flat corner site, the Bay residence is an impressive home, cleverly designed to utilise every last corner of its 700+ square metre block.
Design Intent
The Winner of the 2016 Built Environmental Awards for Most Creative Design, the Bay Residence was designed with entertaining and zoning as priorities. From the beginning, the owners were extensively involved in the planning process of the home and were keen to incorporate their passions and interests into the design.
Bearing the trademark quality of casual luxury while remaining true to the owners’ personal style, the Bay residence consists of carefully planned spaces that offer a harmonious connection between its indoor/outdoor environments.
Interiors
Upon entering the Bay, the foyer space vaults upwards, drawing your sight to the first-floor landing that sits above. With its double-height void, the entrance is flooded with natural light and consistently washed with the ever-changing moods of Melbourne’s weather.
With the clients favouring a neutral palette, emphasis was placed on texture and layering. Finishes such as oak, steel and concrete, synonymous with mckimm homes, were used throughout the project and offer an exquisite contrast to the other materials chosen by our design team.
Lifestyle
The carefully considered lines of the Bay residence centralise the living areas offering an introspective aspect and a feeling of intimacy. With two teenagers, the home was designed so that each member of the family could congregate in the main living areas or retreat to their own private spaces.
Despite its vast volumes, the Bay residence creates a culture of togetherness, while at the same time balancing the need for interaction and privacy.
