Big Day Out Care & Education caters to children from 6 weeks of age to school age, with locations at Peregian Springs and Peregian Beach.
Centre operator, Pam Maclean has designed and built child care centres and understands what constitutes a wonderful environment for young children’s learning. Her knowledge and expertise is applied in the play space design at Big Day Out. Her requirement for large sliding doors to open and close off the space led to CS Cavity Sliders’ involvement in the project.
CS manufactured a set of corner meeting OvertakingDoors cavity sliders. These units have an extra-thick cavity pocket, enabling a series of doors (up to five) to stack side-by-side inside the cavity pocket. They make great room dividers and because the width of the pocket can be minimised, the potential size of the door opening can be maximised. CS provided on site help with the builder to ensure installation went smoothly.
The doors feature no bottom tracks, which Pam says is important for infants and toddlers whose peripheral vision is not developed yet. The doors allow the space to be opened up or closed off as required. They keep it open mostly, but find it extremely useful as they can close the space for staff training, rainy days, meetings, quiet time for the children, talent shows and much more. The frosted glass on the bottom panel means kids fingerprints do not show up on the glass.
The CS NewYorker doors are easy to clean and easy to maintain.
The Department of Education endorsed the product upon inspection, noting that “The doors are a creative use of space”.
