Caulfield House 2

Caulfield House 2 is a contemporary residential extension that masterfully responds to the needs of a growing family. Our clients required a more functional space, including an improved kitchen, laundry, and bathroom facilities, while also seeking a home that better connects to their backyard. Given the site's awkward shape and flood overlays, we devised a design that maximises the available space without compromising planning requirements, creating a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor living. 

By removing the rear corner of the original structure, we transformed the layout into an elegant ‘L’ shape, featuring two bedrooms, an entry, and two versatile living areas. An extension to the north provided a new ensuite for the master bedroom, while a converted middle bedroom became a family bathroom. To the south, we added a new bedroom, laundry, and a gallery space, creating a cosy retreat for reading or music. The central open-plan kitchen and living zone open onto a rear deck with a sunshade, fostering easy outdoor entertainment. The design is anchored by a striking Core-ten clad ribbon wall, with natural textures such as polished concrete, stone benchtops, and timber veneer cabinetry, reflecting the contemporary aesthetic while complementing the home’s connection to its landscape.
