The client's brief requested additional amenity and to reconsider the use of her dwelling’s existing spaces to make a welcoming and practical home while avoiding ostentation. They also introduced us to Jack Gilbert's poem 'A Brief for the Defense', where we are urged that 'We must risk delight.'
And so began a fulfilling collaboration to understand their personality and create a home of considered comfort and delight.
Delight is experienced through the articulation of light via specific window and skylight positioning and detailing, multiple bespoke cabinetry elements and specific materiality selections. A second storey window seat allows for a perch to read, relax and to interact with the street from a comfortable place.
