By First Light Studio Ltd
The young family live in a beautiful example of 1960’s modernism in their low, black-clad courtyard house that catches all-day sun. To provide additional space and to support the clients’ need to work from home during COVID, we designed a new peaceful and private main bedroom + ensuite and a separate office which matched the refined and timeless aesthetic of their existing home.
The design concept was a black box to bridge the garage and house with an indoor hallway beneath and an office opening onto a previously unused, sunny decking area. The main bedroom sits above, with a large window giving an expansive view over the land to the Crow’s Nest and bush-clad hills. Downstairs, the laundry and bathroom were reconfigured and renovated to provide access through the house, and the rather public previous main bedroom was transformed into a kids’ play area and guest room.
