The Montreal Planetarium opened in 1966, located at Chaboillez Square north east of Downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The chosen design had an astronomical theme and the exterior of the Dome resembled Saturn surrounded by its rings. The Planetarium had its last show in 2011 before the new Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium opened its doors 2 years later.

The building was then ceded to the Ecole de technologie superieure, a major engineering school, which recently completed an extensive remodel in keeping with the original style of the building.

When Vitrerie RD were invited to bid on an extensive remodel of the Dow Planetarium in Montreal recently, they knew who to turn to for their Bent Glass requirements!

Specifications called out for over  500m2 (5000ft2) of Bent Glass, which included Bent Tempered IG’s, and Bent Tempered Laminated panels with pieces up to 4585mm (15′ 1/2″) tall – so naturally Glasshape® was a perfect partner to collaborate with!

Now completed, the remodel opened up meeting places where students can discuss topics and projects together with a surrounding sense of space and light, while in-keeping with the structures curved appearances – and the photos speak for themselves!
