The proposal included remodelling the rear of the house to include a second storey, while retaining the original brick dwelling and its period features. The project required consideration and balance of current and future requirements, being able to accommodate a growing teen through his high school years, while being easy to maintain and live in when he ultimately moves out. Ultimately providing a safeguard against having to downsize in the future. The process used the client’s brief as a basis to explore and consider new opportunities to add value where practical.

With consideration and balance for current and future requirements, we proposed a modern second story and rear extension while retaining the original brick dwelling and its period features. This proposal includes a private space for a growing teen as well as functional indoor and outdoor living areas. The objective is to maximise the amenity without compromising ease of maintenance, which creates a space to enjoy for years to come.
