Flex Fitness Rolleston is a new addition to the fast-growing Ōtautahi metropolitan area and is nestled within the Wellness Precinct of Rolleston Fields. The main entrance has pride of place along the new main street and as IKON head architect, Henry Read, artfully states, “Entering from Tennyson Street feels like entering a high-street retail offering, with classic reception, juice bar, and shop display within a large volume setting. The exposed honest materials, dark tone, selective lighting, and planters set the language for the refined industrial aesthetic beyond.”
The 700m2 main gym and group class space conveys a thoughtfully crafted experience. A monochromatic black base palette showcases the strong, sleek aesthetic and high-level finishes; this is particularly apparent in the blacked-out ceiling and exposed services which maintain the industrial edge in a polished form. In balance with this, the use of hanging planter troughs, feature bar lighting, and a touch of textured concrete flooring act to soften the dominant base and highlight the brand’s vibrant colour palette.
To us, architecture is not about the buildings we design. It’s about the people who inhabit the spaces within and around them. With that in mind, we’re not only accountable to our clients, but also to every person who sets foot inside one of our buildings. It’s a big responsibility which we take very seriously.
IKON is passionate about creating great spaces for working, learning, living and care. We pride ourselves on our meticulous approach which ensures not only the best outcome for each project but also the best process along the way.
Since founding in 1976, we’ve built a rich portfolio of projects across commercial, community, health, multi-use sporting and leisure. Our longevity is a testament to our client and a results-focused team that work towards the same goal: producing the best outcomes for you, your building and those who will use it.
