Project: Bupa Parkstone Apartments
Status: Complete
Typology: Multi-Residential / Aged Care
Contractor: Armitage Williams Construction

Completed in 2020, this large-scale project introduces 49 apartments spread across two multi-storey buildings and a new 950m² community centre to the aged care portfolio nurtured by Bupa in Christchurch. The challenge of designing livable, desirable and marketable high-density residential solutions is difficult enough without the sensitivity required for senior demographics. This challenge is met and answered through meticulous spatial arrangement. A balance of functionality, efficiency and generosity offers apartment living as a viable option without compromise. Cost-effective yet strategic, a suburban palette of materials is employed to condense the large building into the residential scale. While the self-contained apartments offer residents with a sense of privacy and independence, extroverted outdoor living spaces in addition to the various communal facilities across the wider village encourage socialisation and promote a culture of connectivity.
To us, architecture is not about the buildings we design. It’s about the people who inhabit the spaces within and around them. With that in mind, we’re not only accountable to our clients, but also to every person who sets foot inside one of our buildings. It’s a big responsibility which we take very seriously.
IKON is passionate about creating great spaces for working, learning, living and care. We pride ourselves on our meticulous approach which ensures not only the best outcome for each project but also the best process along the way.
Since founding in 1976, we’ve built a rich portfolio of projects across commercial, community, health, multi-use sporting and leisure. Our longevity is a testament to our client and a results-focused team that work towards the same goal: producing the best outcomes for you, your building and those who will use it.
