This architect designed home is tucked into the clifftop at Flinders, Victoria and takes in 180 degree views of the ocean, with its shingled roof blending beautifully into the coastal bush setting. With the rugged landscape as a backdrop, the English clients’ vision was to create a serene Australian retreat with a contemporary Australian design that maximised the site's natural beauty while serving as a practical home for family and overseas friends to visit.
Susie Miles Design was hired to create a bespoke interior design fit-out with an innate Australian flavour, suited to the unique location. The result is a striking home with carefully curated interiors showcasing thoughtful design, natural materials and meticulous craftsmanship.
Embracing the bush setting, the interiors feature a distinctive Australian colour palette of finishes, fabrics, and original artworks by Australian and Aboriginal artists. The colour scheme flows throughout the living zones with extensive use of Spotted Gum in the timber flooring, wall paneling and some of the furniture pieces.
Skilled artisans introduced to the project by Susie Miles Design helped to bring the clients ‘Australiana’ vision to life with Spotted Gum custom-designed tables and coffee tables, large comfy sofas and textured wool rugs, adding warm earthy tones and elegance to the large open plan living room.
Artisan-designed lighting fixtures include an incredible 1.8 metre natural willow pendant featured in the double height entry void and casts captivating stick-like shadows around the walls, further elevating the coastal interior design of the home.
With expansive glass doors that frame the breathtaking ocean views and the attention to detail in the textured, layered Australian home interiors, the house is designed to delight and enjoy.
