A thoughtfully designed Garden House that prioritizes accessibility and sustainability, seamlessly integrating with the clients' cherished gardens and enhancing their quality of life.
This home is designed for a professional couple entering retirement, with a strong focus on accessibility, comfort, and a seamless connection to the evolving gardens. The clients, who have owned the property and lived and worked on the adjacent site for over 25 years, are avid gardeners. The site has long been part of the extensive gardens they’ve cultivated, and the design honours this heritage, conceptually playing with tension between solid and void, arranged beneath a sheltering draped roof.
Prioritizing sustainability and accessibility, the home helps the clients mitigate health challenges while maintaining their independence and a high quality of life. Two cedar-clad blocks define the public (kitchen, dining, living) and private (bedrooms, services) zones, linked by a spacious ‘Garden Room.’ The cedar-lined roof ties the entire space together, blurring the lines between indoors, outdoors, and the surrounding garden.
