A modern, light-filled extension to an existing Californian bungalow in Glen Iris. The rear extension connects to the East-facing garden through new open-plan Living, Dining and Kitchen spaces.
The new spaces are housed under a gable roof that draws inspiration from the existing bungalow roof. This new roof is expressed internally with high ceilings and highlight windows facing North. The rear gable is lined in an expressed vertical cladding that further references the detail and repetition found in the existing front facade.
As you pass through the existing entry and hallway, the new Living, Dining and Kitchen areas open to the high ceiling and look out towards the garden through full-height glass sliding doors. The Laundry and Butler’s Pantry are concealed behind a curved wall lined in vertical white battens. Oak timber flooring, white cabinetry and stone benchtops tie the house together.
A sense of calm, warmth and lightness.
