Honey House Cafe, Kerikeri

The New Zealand Historic Places Trust commissioned Salmond Reed Architects to transform the lower floor of their 1970s administration building on the historically important Kerikeri Mission Station site into a bright and airy café, whilst retaining their own offices on the first floor.

The Honey House Café became an overnight success with visitors, who enjoy both the café facilities with its surrounding lawn, as well as the nearby heritage attractions in the Kerikeri Basin.

While the construction aspect of the café development was straightforward, the resource consent process was somewhat more challenging and dedicated input from Trust staff was required in order to ensure the project’s successful outcome.

Award winning multi-disciplinary architectural design, and heritage conservation practice.

Founded in 1993 by the late NZIA Gold Medal recipient Jeremy Salmond. We bring thirty years’ of nationwide experience and expertise to your project, whether it involves the sensitive adaptation of a character building or the design of a contemporary structure in a sensitive environmental setting (or, indeed, a combination of both.)

Directors Rosalie Stanley, Lloyd Macomber, and Philip Graham, lead a staff of around twenty talented registered architects and graduates, chartered building surveyors, heritage consultants and support staff, all of whom share a resolve to deliver optimum project solutions to meet client aspirations and budgets.

Staff have an in-depth knowledge of traditional building materials and techniques, enabling them to advise on the application of modern architectural conservation practice for older buildings, while our designers also maintain a strong grasp of modern building technologies and materials to bring excellence to our contemporary designs.
