This project was considered a contemporary addition to a semi-detached heritage house with narrow site constraints which seeks to contrast the tones and materials of the existing heritage dwelling with reference to its pitched form.

The design retains the existing formal heritage front rooms and creates a casual arrangement at the rear characterised by open plan and large floor-to-ceiling windows for flexible modern living with private indoor-outdoor connecting spaces. The use of vertical landscaping provides a lush garden space whilst maximising the outdoor entertaining spaces.

Filtering light to the ground floor through an open stair and voids to enhance and maximise natural light throughout the home without compromising the layout considering the narrow nature of the site. The interiors are based on a simplified palette of warm timbers with contrasting black accents and white elements for a timeless forever family home.

A balance between the old and the new, the design for this home has created a forever home suitable for a contemporary lifestyle whilst embracing the heritage nature of the building.

About the
Professional

At DX Architects, we design responsive architecture to elevate your life and deliver a home for the way you live. Established in 2007 by its principal architect and director, Daniel Xuereb, we have maintained a boutique scale to our practice which allows you to engage and collaborate closely with our specialised team to ensure that every design detail is resolved collaboratively and efficiently.

With a track record of delivering inner-city residential builds, we are always pushing the design limits that narrow sites typically pose and envisioning a design that responds to the site’s inherent contextual complexity.

We actively challenge constraints, whilst balancing the historical contextual characteristics of your site and its future use.

Your dream project will be created through our tailored design process in partnership with our team of experienced designers and delivered to the highest standard through our established network of consultants, and quality builders.

At our core, we value quality, adaptability, positivity, and creativity, and strive to implement these throughout everything we do.
