Background

As the brand new 11:11 Yoga Studio prepared for launch, the owners recognized that standard heating units would be insufficient for their specialized needs. They required infrastructure robust enough to handle the dual load of high-temperature output and strict humidity control, all while minimizing the carbon footprint and utility overhead. Quality and efficiency were paramount, as inconsistent heat or excessive noise could directly impact class retention. They contacted Herschel Infrared to discuss suitable solutions, seeking a partner who could engineer a custom setup that balanced these intense thermal demands with long-term operational sustainability.

Solution

To meet the strict requirement of maintaining temperatures circa 35°C+ essential for the practice, Herschel carried out a comprehensive survey of the studio space. The assessment accounted for critical variables including ceiling heights, mounting restrictions, glazing ratios, and insulation levels. Based on these findings, Herschel Aspect units were specified: zero-light, discreet infrared heaters designed specifically for hot yoga environments. These were strategically wall-mounted around the studio to ensure even heat distribution without visual intrusion or noise.

The Aspect heaters achieved maximum operational efficiency when controlled by MD2 hard-wired thermostats. This integration ensured precise temperature maintenance, effectively optimizing energy usage while delivering consistent heat. Key features of the control system included:

Programming Modes
Users can select between Manual, Eco, and 7-Day Program modes. The scheduling feature allows for 7 x 1 day programming with 4 distinct periods per day, enabling customized temperature settings for different times such as waking, daytime setback, evening comfort, and night.
Energy Saving Technologies
A standout feature is the Open Window Detection. This function automatically shuts off the heating if a rapid drop in temperature is detected, preventing energy waste when a window is left open. The system complies with EC Directive 2009/125/EC for Ecodesign of local space heaters.
Security and Range
MD2 includes a Keypad Lock feature to prevent unauthorized tampering, which is particularly useful in commercial settings like hotels, care homes, and rental properties. The temperature set point range is extensive, spanning from 5°C to 45°C, making it viable for specialist high-temperature applications such as this hot yoga studio.
