Hyundai Marine Sports Centre
The Hyundai Marine Sports Centre was designed to operate as a true multi-user facility. In addition to boat storage and change facilities it includes over 800m2 of training and educational areas, and event spaces capable of hosting more than 300 people. It will remain the home of the historic Royal Akarana Yacht Club as well as other sports clubs.
Built on The Landing in Okahu Bay, the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre needed to accommodate a wide variety of sports events running concurrently. With panoramic views over the bay it has the capacity to operate as a hosting facility for larger national and international events, and provide outstanding training areas and meeting rooms equipped with the latest audio visual and learning aides.
The Centre provides the wider community with the opportunity to actively participate, spectate or just enjoy the spectacular views and quality services in a safe, family friendly environment.
The centre was selected as the venue for the combined world championships of the 49er (men) 49erFX (women) and Nacra 17 catamaran regatta held in December of 2019. Sailing director Rod Davis noted the announcement of such a high profile event just one year after opening was a fantastic achievement for the venue.
