Providing a base for a world-class golf course as well as a destination for walkers, cyclists, coffee fanatics, family lunches and particular diners the building is part of the landscape.
The clubhouse involved the skills of many people, from client to carpenter. It was always seen as being a model for the coming houses. A collection of trusses from a demolished factory provided an astounding 15m span that needed strength to anchor it to the ground; cast concrete and sawn plank walls provide.
A simple, almost simplistic attitude to material and shape contrasts old and new, tradition and modernism which is both airy and massive.
It may sound trite to say all of my work is affordable to those that have the money. If you have only just enough for a group house, you have enough for affordable architecture that will not reduce you to boredom each day you wake up.
A little more in the budget and you can still have good looks, comfort and a sense of quality that appears easily attained. You can also enjoy being more selective and particular.
